Hanbury Road

From Monday 10 February, a section of Hanbury Road in Pontypool Town Centre will be closed in both directions for eight weeks, including weekends.

The road is being temporarily closed between the Clarence Corner roundabout and Glantorvaen Road to enable Dwr Cymru Welsh Water to carry out improvements to the sewerage network.

A traffic diversion will be in place via the A4043 and delays are expected.

Access will be maintained for residents, businesses based in Hanbury Road, and emergency services vehicles. Alternative pedestrian routes will also be available.

Civic Centre will be open as normal, as will the Glantorvaen Road multi-storey car park. However, people are asked to consider using alternative car parks to help reduce congestion in the town centre. Car park opening times

Hanbury Road toilets and the town hall bus stops will be closed during the work. Alternative public toilets are available in Pontypool Indoor Market, Pontypool Park and Pontypool Active Living Centre.

Last month, cabinet members agreed to use UK Shared Prosperity Fund money to pay for the work as part of a wider programme of town centre improvements.

Cllr Joanne Gauden, Executive Member for Economy, Skills and Regeneration, said: "A  capacity issue with sewerage network has emerged which could affect residents and businesses in the area, as well as any future regeneration projects.

"We understand the temporary closure will have a significant impact for people living and working in Pontypool, but we're committed to breathing new life into the town centre for the benefit of local residents and businesses, as well as others in the borough."
