Local Nature Partnership
The Blaenau Gwent and Torfaen Local Nature Partnership brings communities together to explore, discover and share nature on their doorstep.
The partnership is responsible for developing and implementing the Local Nature Recovery Action Plan, which guides decision-making, project development and local action.
It also funds local projects through the Welsh Government’s Local Places for Nature programme.
Recent initiatives include:
- Planting thousands of urban trees, orchards and hedging, such as a cherry avenue and welsh fruit orchard at the Boating Lake, in Cwmbran.
- Enhancing road verges for wildlife to develop natural corridors.
- Community nature and food growing gardens, including Bagley Court Nature Area, Thornhill Community Centre and Ty Box Close, in Cwmbran.
- Balsam bashing – regular events in the summer to help tackle the invasive Himalayan Balsam.
The group also holds the annual Go Wild event and initiatives as part of Great Big Green Week, in June, and Wales Nature Week, in July.
