To mark this year’s World Book Day, Torfaen Libraries are involved in a series of events to celebrate the love of books and reading.

As part of the celebrations, Pontypool Library will be attending a World Book Day themed event at Pontypool Indoor Market on Saturday, 8 March, between 10am and 3pm.

Families are encouraged to come dressed as their favourite book characters and there will be activities including a book hunt and competition to design a book cover. Between 12pm and 1pm, Librarian Bettina Robinson will lead a 30-minute story time session.

The popular Beefy Boys will also be serving burgers in the market’s pop-up food stall.

In the lead up to World Book Day on Thursday 6 March, rhyme-time sessions will be held at Pontypool and Blaenavon libraries and Gwent House, in Cwmbran. Full details about all events can be found on the Torfaen Libraries Facebook page.

Library staff will also be working with local schools during the week to support their World Book Day events.

Councillor Richard Clark, Torfaen Council's Executive Member for Children, Families and Education, commented on the importance of reading at a young age, stating, "Reading is fundamental to a child's development and can significantly improve educational outcomes.

“By supporting key annual events such as World Book Day, we are aligning with the council's county plan wellbeing objectives to raise attainment and future prospects for our children and young people."
