Dog fouling
If a dog fouls in a public area, it is the owner’s responsibility to pick it up.
If they don’t, they could be issued with a Fixed Penalty Notice of £100 or prosecuted, which could result in a fine of up to £1,000.
Report dog fouling
If the dog mess is on a hard surface on council land, such as a pavement or play area, our Streetscene team will respond within three working days. You will be informed if the area is not council land.
Dog owners can dispose of dog poo bags in any dog or litter bin in the borough.
There are 140 dog exclusion zones including all marked sports pitches and children’s play areas. Find out about dog exclusion zones.
Dogs must be kept on leads in cemeteries, Cwmbran Boating Lake and Garn Lakes.
Pick it Up campaign
We’re working with sports clubs, community groups and schools to highlight the anti-social nature of dog fouling and encourage all dog owners to pick it up.
As part of the campaign, we’re providing dog poo deterrent packs to enable groups to highlight and monitor the number of dog fouling incidents in their area. This information will then be passed onto our civil enforcement team.
